ABSTRACT

It was like a dream, to connect everything on this earth for computation and communication, but the Internet of things (IoT) makes this “impossible” possible. With the introduction of the Internet of Things, devices with varying size and computational capabilities can be connected for communication. These communication devices produce data which is converted into knowledge for making decisions. The sensor devices deployed in IoT environment generate huge amount of data and all data are not useful. It occupies storage space that is not cost effective and energy efficient. Therefore, useful information needs to be extracted to make appropriate decisions. Extraction of knowledgeable data from raw data is possible with the help of data mining. Data mining for IoT is used to formulate an intelligent environment. Therefore, this chapter elaborates various data mining techniques used for IoT, their applications, challenges in developing IoT environment, and few open research issues.
