ABSTRACT

Digital revolution introduced technological advancements such as AI that fundamentally changed how businesses function, disrupted their workflows, and enabled storage, sharing and processing, and analysis of large amounts of data. Data-driven decision-making and business process management have become integral parts of organizational work management, performance, and structure. Organizations that adopt data-intensive technologies are more efficient and adaptive to the fast-changing work environments and create an environment that allows their workers to keep a meaningful work-life balance and effectively manage their projects and perform necessary processes and activities remotely in the absence of constant and direct leadership and resources. This chapter discusses new technology-enabled works, investigates their structure based on the work system framework, and proposes a new work system model that facilitates self-management of works and projects in the new world that is upon us.
