ABSTRACT

The quarantined pathogens cause severe losses in agriculture coupled with the fact that they are difficult to eliminate because of their tremendous capacity for survival by several mechanisms. Nanotechnology plays an important role in the management of quarantine diseases by rapid diagnosis using nanosensors, controlled delivery of fungicides/pesticides, and other chemicals to plants. Various kinds of nanomaterials are used for the treatment of plant pathogens. These include but are not limited to silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), magnesium oxide nanoparticles (MgONPs), iron oxide nanoparticles (Fe2O3NPs), copper nanoparticles (CuNPs), and their combinations. The present chapter is focused on the diagnosis and management of pathogens using various nanomaterials, which provide a base to continue the fight against pathogens in order to safeguard food for the growing population.
