ABSTRACT
Smart city is commonly known as a digital city in an urban setting, which is appropriate for providing ecological protection, security and common services, by employing digital technology. It ensures operational efficacy, information sharing with the public and enhances the quality of government service and promotes the welfare of citizen, by using the information and communication technology. The main aim of a smart city is to optimize the different functions of the city, like improving the life class of inhabitants, through digital and smart technologies. This chapter highlights the different technologies and models, in the process of forming smart cities. Introduction to the smart city is presented in the first section. The different technologies are explained in the second section. Various models, framed for the smart city, are dealt with in the third section. Finally, the major applications of a smart city are described in the fourth section.
Purpose: The purpose of the chapter is to explore the introduction to smart city and the different categories of smart city technologies and models. Furthermore, the key applications of smart city technologies in the different domains are focused on through different subsections.
Methodology: In this chapter, the fundamental, area and components of smart city technology are presented in the first section. The different categories of smart city technologies are dealt with in the second section. The different smart city models are discussed in the third section. Finally, the precise and decisive applications of smart city technologies are explained in the fourth section.
Outcomes: The proposed structure in this chapter will help the young researchers, to gain the knowledge about the fundamentals, environments, areas, components, technologies and models of smart city technologies. As well, it assists to be familiar with the various grounds of applications, integrated by different adaptations of smart city.
Originality/Value: Importance, features, environments, domains, components, technologies, models and detailed applications of smart city in different versions were projected obviously, from this chapter.
