ABSTRACT

Decentralized water treatment systems are slowly becoming one the best options for managing water resources across many parts of the world. Simultaneously, the cities and rural communities across the world are facing a significant shortage of water due to a changing climate and other reasons. Water availability and utility of existing water resources has become more and more challenging. Under these circumstances, a lot of such dynamic factors may have a strong influence on the future perspectives of these treatment systems. To understand how these dynamic factors may affect the treatment systems and their applicability to different communities, an in-depth understanding of various factors and related challenges is necessary. This chapter discusses various challenges that the decentralized water treatment systems are going to face, including the future perspectives of the same.
