ABSTRACT

The special natural environment in cold areas is a vital factor affecting the construction of local water supply and the drainage system. This chapter summarizes the constraints and the measures taken for drinking water supply engineering in cold regions (especially in the Arctic and subarctic regions) and introduces various technological treatment processes for drinking water. In addition to drainage projects in cold areas, some conventional decentralized sewage treatment processes and the corresponding project cases are analyzed. At the same time, this chapter summarizes the challenges of water and wastewater treatment in cold areas from all aspects of the treatment system and proposes new technologies with sustainable development prospects. Finally, the future research direction of water supply and drainage in cold areas is pointed out. This chapter comprehensively considers the status of water and wastewater treatment in cold regions and provides background reference for future research directions.
