ABSTRACT

This study provides an overview of the COVID-19 (C-19) pandemic and its impact on the challenges faced by University lecturers in Taiwan. Related research was extensively reviewed, which led to an online survey being formulated, based on empirical evidence of the effects of the C-19 guidelines on the lecturer's experience and observations. The results showed that almost three-quarters of the teachers (74%) preferred the traditional face-to-face teaching when compared to distance learning. Further, nearly two-thirds (64%) preferred a mixed learning environment during and after the pandemic. Future work will focus on the empirical evaluation of how to support students more efficiently and effectively who may have limited access to online platforms such as unexpected network technical issues and lack of essential equipment to facilitate efficient learning. In the post-pandemic era, University teachers will need to rethink and adapt new strategies on how to encourage individualistic student online performance and engagement to maintain student learning quality and overall standards.
