ABSTRACT

Rajasthan is the largest and the driest state in India containing one-tenth of the total geographical area out of which two-thirds is classified as arid and semi-arid region. Nagaur is geographically known as a high land of this arid region. Traditionally, Nagaur is very well known for its animal husbandry practices. According to the latest livestock census 2019, the total animal population of the district is 27,649,718 and the density of the animal population is 156 animals per square kilometer. Disparity in amenities of veterinary development is a common phenomenon, so the present study aims to analyze the spatial variation in these services in Nagaur district. The existence of spatial variation is one of the basic characteristics of the study area which create problems for policymakers to determine the status of animal health services in the study area. Kuchaman is leading the district from a decade in context of animal health-care facilities having top position in 2007 and 2017 both where Degana and Jayal remain stable at position numbers four and eight, respectively, in 2007 and 2017 both. Ladnun is showing the highest improvement where Makrana, Didwana and Parbatsar are also showing significant improvement in animal health-care facilities in 2017–2018 with reference to 2007–2008. Mundwa is showing the highest decline where Nagaur, Merta and Riyan are also showing a decline in animal health-care facilities in 2017–2018 w.r.t. 2007–2008. The reason behind this change is the growth of animal population, but the veterinary facilities are not increasing in that ratio.
