ABSTRACT

Nevertheless, gender equality is a slogan chanted by nations nowadays. However, it is imperative to mention that even in the 21st century, a gender gap in career advancement continues to be an issue worldwide. There has been a legal intervention from time to time to address this issue and ensure equitable advancement opportunities for women worldwide. But the actual picture reveals that gender disparity in career advancement is still persistent worldwide. Besides, existing literature reveals that women have fewer career advancement opportunities available than men. Therefore, in the backdrop of voluminous literature, the present chapter attempts to provide a vivid conceptual understanding of the gender gap in career advancement. It has also discussed the strong antecedents of such disparities and their ramifications on women employees and organizations worldwide. The study is purely theoretical and has concluded that gender equality in career advancement is simply rhetoric. It will take much more years for women to witness complete parity in workplaces. Also, it provides various theoretical, practical, and societal implications and recommendations for future research.
