ABSTRACT

Plants are considered as a very significant resource in many parts of the world due to their variety of uses in treating diseases and ailments. The phytochemical constituents of any botanical species are the active agent for the corresponding medicinal activity, such as antimicrobial, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, antianalgesic, antidepressant, antiplasmodial, antirheumatic, and others. Most of the villages in Africa, Asia, and South America are still using medicinal plants for the treatment of various diseases. Malaria is a global disease and has cases in most countries of the world. Villagers still believe in their traditional system and thus utilize extracts of different plant parts for malarial treatment. Efforts are made to enlist majority of plant species which show mild to high antimalarial potential. Details of the plant species, their families, geographic distribution, and important phytochemical constituents, are discussed thoroughly.
