ABSTRACT

In this study, a design of an experiment-based optimization study was proposed to determine the welding parameters that will optimize the welding quality in the process of joining St37 steel used in building construction with gas metal arc (MIG) welding. Welding parameters were determined according to welding standards, and the appropriate solution methodology was determined using a 2k fractional factorial design combined linear programming (LP) model. The optimal factor values were obtained as a result of the experiments and tests carried out by the experimental design. Then, a regression function was derived from the 2k experimental design analysis result as an objective function for the LP model. Finally, an LP model was developed to reach the maximum tensile strength of the welded structure by optimizing the effective factor’s level.
