ABSTRACT

The South African automotive industry Supply Chain Management (SCM) is an important element which plays a key role in its competitiveness. Many factors influence its competitiveness beyond the control of the industry. A research was conducted to identify and proffer solutions that may mitigate the supply chain Integration Challenges of the automotive industry in South Africa. From the investigation carried out using primary data collection approach, operational cost, customer’s order cancelations, power failure, and cheap imports are major concerns inhibiting the local industry’s global competitiveness. For effective supply chain, emphasis must be placed on suppliers of raw materials, the transformation process, work in progress, final product, and shipments to customer. As a result, the development of good competitive supply chain Strategies is vital. From the aforementioned, developing strategies that will overcome this challenges is of high importance as competitiveness partially depends on a smooth supply chain management system.
