ABSTRACT

The healthcare industry has faced numerous issues and challenges, including insurance fraud, cooperation between hospitals, the management of medical records, supply chain management, continuous health monitoring, identity verification, the security of records, and so on. This sector necessitates highly secure confidential record-keeping and sharing mechanisms adhering to the current laws, namely the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). During the COVID-19 era, many additional issues in healthcare sectors were exposed, such as infodemics, the sharing of medical data for research purposes, etc. Blockchain technology provides powerful solutions to the problems of the healthcare industry because of its inherent properties, such as decentralized storage, authentication, immutability, and security. This contribution demonstrates that Blockchain technology can efficiently cater to the healthcare sector needs in respect of security and privacy.
