ABSTRACT

In this book chapter, we provide an overview of the superalkali and superhalogen assisted noble gas compounds, which are a relatively new class of compounds that have attracted significant attention in recent years due to their unique properties and potential applications. We begin with a discussion about the definitions of noble gas compounds, superalkalis and superhalogens followed by the electronic and structural properties of these compounds, which are dictated by the interactions between the noble gas atom and the superalkali/superhalogen species. Several requisite computational methods along with methods, basis sets and tools for understanding the bonding scenario have been discussed. Brief discussions in combination with the examples of the superalkali and superhalogen assisted noble gas compounds along with their electronic and energetic properties have been provided.
