ABSTRACT

In order to explore the effect of clay on the shear strength and microstructure of red clay, the consolidated undrained test and scanning electron microscope test were carried out by preparing red clay samples with different clay contents. The results show that the clay has an obvious influence on the cohesion and internal friction angle of the red clay. The cohesion increases with the increase of the clay, and the internal friction angle decreases with the increase of the clay. Through the analysis of the microstructure, the particle distribution of the soil is uneven, the size is different and complex, and the clay will fill the pores of the red clay. The higher the clay content is, the finer the soil sample looks, the clay particles will closely connect the particles. The conclusions of this paper have certain practical significance for the study of engineering properties of red clay and provide some help for the treatment of red clay.
