ABSTRACT

This article studies the numerical analysis on fully bolted joints in assembled steel structure combined with finite element (FE) method with theoretical calculation. First, the FE model of a typical column-beam joint was established in some substations. The results of the FE model and the theoretical calculations were compared to prove the effectiveness of the calculation. Parametric studies were carried out to analyze the influence of the thickness of stiffeners and end plates. The factors in the calculation as the effects of the prying action and failure modes were also put into consideration. The result showed that the setting of stiffeners and the increase of the thickness of the end plate would both improve the bearing capacity and stiffness of the joint, while the influence would become weak if the end plate is thick enough. The reasonable selection of the size of stiffeners and end plates would meet the requirement of the design value of loads and construction cost.
