ABSTRACT

Waste management and climate change both are cognate issues. Lack of proper management of any kind of waste ultimately releases certain contributors, which disturb the atmosphere leading to climate change. It is very important to mitigate both of these problems concurrently. In recent times, all across the globe including India a large quantity of biodegradable waste is generated daily. Management and handling of this waste is a challenge. The integration of various technologies may help to resolve this problem to a large extent at the ground level. In recent times, various technologies have emerged and wide research is going on for the management of various kinds of biodegradable waste generated from different sources. In this chapter the issue of biodegradable waste management, relation between biodegradable waste and climate change, various probable technologies to achieve value-added products from biodegradable wastes to reduce the burden on climate has been discussed and specific category of biodegradable waste is underscored.
