ABSTRACT

As one of the greatest inventions of the 20th century, plastic has greatly facilitated human life, but at the same time, it has also caused environmental pollution that is difficult to ignore. How to deal with plastic waste has become a global problem. Since the 1980s, plastic modified bitumen has been used in many ways, but there are still difficulties to promote and other challenges. In this research, waste polyethylene terephthalate (PET) was used as raw material, which was degraded by alcoholysis method, and the degradation product was used as modifiers for bitumen modification. The results show that the degradation product can improve the high temperature rheology, rutting resistance and fatigue performance of bitumen, where the amount of BHET is 3% is appropriate.
