ABSTRACT

It is generally believed that it is difficult to effectively restore asphalt performance through the hot in-place recycling process when the penetration(25°C)of reclaimed asphalt is less than 20 (0.1mm), this seriously limits the application of HIR. In order to effectively evaluate the applicability of extremely aged asphalt in HIR, the rheological properties of reclaimed asphalt under different rejuvenators were investigated by using G-R parameter and ΔTc . Based on the balance design method, the optimum dosage of rejuvenator was determined, and it is applied in the maintenance project of Cheng-yu and Cheng-ya expressways. The results showed that the extremely aged asphalt with penetration(25°C)less than 20 (0.1mm) can still be used in HIR projects with good application effect, but the performance of reclaimed asphalt and mixture needs to be strictly controlled before being implemented in the field . The dosage of rejuvenator played a key role in balancing the rutting and cracking resistance of the mix.
