ABSTRACT

Following the idea of combining the triboelectric nanogenerator with the ancient origami technology, the Yoshimura origami inspired triboelectric nanogenerator (YO-TENG) was developed to integrated into the automobile tires surface, and which can achieve the energy harvesting and self-powered sensing for intelligent pavement. The open-circuit voltage and short circuit current of the proposed YO-TENG is 17.5 V and 1.25 μA, respectively. In order to demonstrate the its capability for pavement skid resistance detection, the asphalt rutting board with OGFC-13 under wet and dry conditions was prepared, it can be found that the fitting degree of the peak value of short circuit current to the friction coefficient can reach to ~93%. This work broadens the application scenario of TENG in the field of pavement engineering, and provides a new idea for the realization of traffic information monitoring on intelligent pavement.
