ABSTRACT

The existing two-dimensional simulation of radar wave equates the pavement materials as laminar homogeneous or random medium, without considering the influence of materials heterogeneity and real morphology on the attenuation of radar wave propagation, resulting in inaccurate simulation. Based on the finite difference time domain method, this paper combined discrete element modelling and electromagnetic simulation technology to construct a multiphase heterogeneous electromagnetic difference model of the cement slab. Obtained waveforms and patterns of radar wave propagation in heterogeneous materials, compared the differences in the propagation characteristics of radar waves in different models and frequencies, and clarified the influence of heterogeneous materials on the interference of echoes at the laminar interface. The results show that the higher the of radar wave frequencies, the more significant the interference of heterogeneous materials on the target signal.
