ABSTRACT

Image processing techniques can quickly and accurately acquire two-dimensional images of coarse aggregates and evaluate their morphological characteristics. In this paper, the morphological characteris-tics of coarse aggregates of different grain sizes are analyzed by image processing techniques. This study pro-poses a method for acquiring and analyzing the 2D morphology of coarse aggregates based on image pro-cessing. The ratio between the long and short axes, the rectangularity, roundness and angularity are applied to analyze the size, shape and angle of the aggregate. For large sample sizes and low accuracy requirements, the Efficient Image Method is recommended. This method offers new possibilities for quantifying aggregate morphology in asphalt pavements and can be used in quality control systems for the design and manufacture of asphalt pavements.
