ABSTRACT

BIM has emerged as a powerful digital tool for construction management and infrastructure projects. Within the scope of pavement design and construction, BIM enables creating information models of pavement structure by developing a collaborative platform that integrates multiple data sources and stakeholders. The paper provides a review of the current literature and practical applications on the use of BIM in pavement design. The paper highlights the benefits of using this tool and also discusses the challenges of the practical implementation in pavement design projects. In conclusion, this paper synopsis the need for specialized skills and training, lack of data management and interoperability among software platforms related to infrastructure. This paper also concludes the potential of future research directions and possible implementations, including the use of BIM in pavement maintenance and rehabilitation.
