ABSTRACT

The softening point difference is an important index to characterize the storage stability of SBS modified asphalt. However, there are many problems with the current testing methods (T 0661-2011) widely used in China, such as being time-consuming, an inability to accurately simulate actual storage conditions, and large test errors, among others. The purpose of this paper is to present a rapid detection method for the thermal storage stability of SBS-modified asphalt based on rheology. By using a dynamic shear rheological (DSR) test, a viscoelastic coefficient Vc function model is established, and the stability factor Rf is defined and used as a new evaluation index. The validity of this method is verified based on sample test data, and a three-level evaluation method is established and compared with current indicators. The results show that the proposed method is more effective and convenient. The test procedure of this method more closely resembles the actual situation of field production, and the recommended reasons for adopting this approach include high reliability and the use of sophisticated instruments.
