ABSTRACT

To study the influence of certain surface textures on the skid resistance of the pavement, this study used 3D printing technology to design artificial texture pavement specimens. The specimens included three texture shapes and five texture heights. The friction performance of the specimens was evaluated by the British pendulum friction tester and the sand patch method. At the same texture height of 1 to 4mm, the friction performance of the triangular specimen was slightly higher than that of the rectangular texture and semicircular texture specimen. In terms of the British pendulum number (BPN), the triangular texture specimen with 3-mm height, the rectangular and semicircular texture specimen with 5-mm height achieved the highest BPN of 76. In terms of the mean texture depth, the rectangular texture specimen with 5-mm height obtained the greatest depth of 2.08mm.
