ABSTRACT

Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) has the advantages of flexible formula and a wide range of applicability, which meets the requirements as an asphalt modifier. In this study, a TPU modifier was synthesized to prepare TPU-modified asphalt with different modifier content and isocyanate index r. The microstructure characteristics of TPU-modified asphalt were observed by AFM. The results showed that the addition of the TPU modifier changed the surface topography of the asphalt, and the typical feature was the disappearance of the bee structures. The surface roughness Sq and Young’s modulus E of modified asphalt are higher than that of base asphalt, which indicates that TPU improves the deformation resistance of asphalt. When the dosage of 5% and r=1.05. The Sq and E of modified asphalt are the largest, which is recommended as the suitable parameters for the synthesis of TPU modifier and the preparation of modified asphalt.
