ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the fundamentals, operation principles, as well as advanced circuit techniques on three main topics of power management ICs, namely low-dropout (LDO) linear regulator, switched-capacitor (SC) power converter, and wireless power transfer circuits and systems. In particular, it discusses the loop stability, transient response, and power supply ripple rejection considerations for an LDO design, flipped-voltage follower based LDO designs, digital and analog-assisted digital LDO designs. The chapter also discusses the practical issues when designing SC power converters, and presents the multiphase operation of SC converter. For wireless power transfer, it introduces the active rectifier designs, global and local output regulation schemes.
