ABSTRACT

In this 21st century, digital transformation has made a huge impact on the lives of the people. It has laid a foundation for various new technologies, such as the Internet of Things, cloud computing, mobile computing, and big data. Unified standards are developed to make smart cities sustainable for accessibility, reliability, and environmental monitoring. The assessment of smart and sustainable cities is a huge challenge because of their complex, chaotic, and complicated nature. As the areas of smart cities are diverse, their mapping must be performed according to considerations of sustainability. This must balance urban area development and the environment without affecting people’s quality of living. This chapter outlines the pillars of sustainable development in smart cities, green smart cities, smart transportation, and the security sector.
