ABSTRACT

Today the world is facing numerous environmental problems occurring due to improper climatic changes by global warming, natural imbalances, and other man-made things on earth. The global temperature is increasing day by day and therefore melting land snow or ice sheets are escalating global sea levels similarly. The increasing levels of melting of land snow or ice sheets become one of the biggest challenges in front of us and need to be monitored, controlled, or resolved by us as soon as possible. Therefore an attempt is made in this paper to study and develop a technique that can extract the snow-covered area using some digital image processing techniques and a few other geospatial techniques applied to high-resolution snow-covered satellite images. This paper further extended to study and understand the changes that occurred in snow-covered areas of Himalayan ranges during the years 1973, 1985 to 2020 using temporal satellite imageries.
