ABSTRACT
The disease cancer holds a major place in death rate in majority of disorders as known in the world, and the conventional synthetic medicines used until now produce many side effects. The disease is caused due to many external as well as internal effects. External factors include lifestyle and the food people regularly consume, while internal factors are caused by many different diseases in the human body. So, the result is many new, better, and safe options, such as natural plant products. This chapter shows the current knowledge on the inter-connection between essential oils and treatment of cancer. On a similar basis, the use of essential oils is seen in aromatherapy and increasing immunity at the time of cancer treatment. Cancer cell prevention and cytotoxicity are seen from many mechanisms in recent research that focuses on the synergetic and antagonistic activity between particular essential oils and their major and minor components. The use of essential oils has shown an effective targeting activity in cancer cells and is able to enhance the efficacy of commonly used chemotherapy drugs. This chapter shows the work behind the applications of these essential oils as anticancer agents. The use of essential oils in combination with traditional chemotherapy technique, which is also researched, to specifically target the cancer cells.
