ABSTRACT

Automation in agriculture using information and communication techniques and robotic devices has recently received much attention. Significant breakthroughs in agricultural operations have been seen, particularly with the development of ICT principles. Artificial intelligence (AI) is one of the core technologies used in precision agriculture (PA) because of its ability to analyze massive amounts of data, extract useful information, and help agricultural practitioners to understand the farming strategy and make accurate assessments. The major objective of this chapter is to increase reader understanding of the most recent developments of AI in smart agriculture and the related social and economic concerns that need to be prioritized. This chapter discusses PA-related methods and techniques such as the Internet of Things (IoT), machine learning roles in PA, big data, cloud computing, and its suitable applications. Furthermore, a few hurdles still stand in the way of the widespread application of ICT technologies in agriculture which is also featured for future improvement.
