ABSTRACT

Cancer was discovered in Egypt in 1500 B.C. Cancer is still dominating, and it is becoming a challenge to the people of the scientific world. Several doctors and scientists are still studying oncology, its anatomy, physiology, chemistry, and the various treatments used to treat this contagious disease. Recently, plant compounds such as flavonoids, polyphenols, isothiocyanate, and triterpenoids have given hope against cancer. The present study highlights phytochemicals proven to have potential in the treatment of various cancers. Natural products, spices, and herbs like ginger (gingerol), garlic (allicin), turmeric (curcumin), black cumin (thymoquinone), Carum carvi (limonene), and folic acid, phenolic compounds act as inhibitors in the enzymatic system, metal chelators and scavenging free radicals involved in many chronic conditions like cancer and other inflammatory diseases. They are found in dry fruits like almonds, walnuts, pistachio, hazlenuts, and 46vineblastine and vincristine from Catharanthus roseus, and are used to treat renal, breast, and testicular cancers.
