ABSTRACT

Diabetes disrupts intestinal flora, possibly increasing permeability and inflammation. Prebiotics can counter poor diets, fermenting into beneficial compounds like SCFAs. This nutritional approach improves gut health and lowers oxidative stress, inflammation, and insulin resistance. It enhances gut barrier, and glycemic control, and alters microbiome composition, potentially mitigating diabetes. This chapter explores scientific evidence on how gut flora and microbial products influence metabolism.
