ABSTRACT

The significance of digital twins in the design and development of smart cities is becoming increasingly crucial within the current urban environment. This abstract examines the diverse impact of digital twin technologies on the transformation of urban planning and management. Digital twins are virtual representations of real infrastructure and processes that offer city planners and politicians a dynamic and data-intensive platform for simulating, monitoring, and optimizing different facets of urban life. They enhance the process of comprehensive urban planning by providing valuable insights into several aspects, such as traffic management, energy consumption, environmental effects, and infrastructure maintenance. Through the integration of real-time data and predictive analytics, digital twins have the capability to boost efficiency, sustainability, and resilience within urban environments. This chapter explores the various applications and benefits of digital twins in the context of creating intelligent and highly adaptable urban environments. It places particular emphasis on the potential of digital twins to enhance the overall well-being of urban residents, while simultaneously tackling the complex issues arising from rapid urbanization and climate change.
