ABSTRACT

The origins and development of cell culture are intimately tied with the diversification of cell culture applications. Ever-increasing demands on cell culture, both in terms of complexity and the burgeoning scope of its commercialization, are witnessed when tracking the history of cell culture. In this background, the fundamentals of cell culture, such as aseptic handling of cultures, propagation, cell immortalization, and general laboratory safety and disposal of cell culture waste, must be given due emphasis that may otherwise be overlooked to the detriment of both the researcher and application end-users alike.
