ABSTRACT

By changing and expanding the shipyards’ product range to include more complex vessels with higher added value and developing advanced materials and related technologies, shipyards face more complex technological problems within the production process. The most common problems are horizontal and vertical transport, including turning the big ship blocks, the definition of temporary technological stiffeners, deformations and strain prediction and prevention, installed equipment impact and launching. The paper presents the FEA methodology with an emphasis on specific application examples of a lifting process during the launching of a motor yacht with a 300-ton gantry crane. The study includes a global strength analysis of the hull and associated lifting arrangement and a detailed local strength analysis in the lift point area. The result is shown in the form of structure verification and optimisation of standard padeye. The analysis was made using the combination of two software packages LS-DYNA and FEMAP.
