ABSTRACT

Until recently, speaking about mental health at work was something that was not encouraged and, therefore, rarely practiced. Impact of COVID-19 on mental health, followed by the science focusing on why and how individuals develop anxiety to the point where it appears to become ‘them’ rather than an undesirable aspect of their behavior that they can change. This chapter intends to bring current phenomena and showcase a new path for employee well-being from the inner process of the brain through habit loops, formulations, unwinding anxiety, and depression – a neuroscientific process and interaction of the same in a workplace. This continued with the external stimuli presence, such as roles, leadership, and their effect on workplace culture, especially the shift of these during the pandemic. A thorough review was done on various strategies that have been proven to break these dysfunctional habit loops and replace them with more functional and constructive habits leading to reduced anxiety, stronger mental well-being, and resilience. Finally, the role of organizations in providing an environment where their employees can thrive was discussed.
