ABSTRACT

Greenhouse gases, regulated emissions, and energy use in technologies (GREET) model for heavy and new energy vehicles’ carbon emissions and pollution factors utilize vehicle survival and AGE-dependent usage characteristics. The GREET extension includes fuel consumption, GHG emissions, and air pollutant emissions for various conventional (i.e., diesel and/or gasoline) heavy-duty vehicle (HDV) types. These vehicle types were selected to represent the diversity of the US HDV market, and specific weight classes and body types were selected based on their fuel consumption using the 2002 Vehicle Inventory and Usage Survey database. The impacts of substituting lightweight materials into vehicles for vehicle cycle and total vehicle life cycle were studied.
