ABSTRACT

With the increase in tunnel operating mileage and traffic flow in China, the frequent spills in the tunnel pose a serious threat to traffic safety. If the obstacles are not found and disposed of in time, it will lead to serious traffic accidents. To analyze the type, impact, discovery path, and other characteristics of vehicle spill in the tunnel, based on the recorded information of vehicle impact spill in 58 highway tunnels in Zhejiang Province from 2019 to 2021, this paper statistically analyzes the number of vehicles impact spills, different types of spills, and the discovery path of events. The research results show that: 1) in the past three years, vehicles hitting the sprinklers have increased, but the vehicle damage caused by the impact events has a downward trend. 2) Among the different types of vehicles hitting the sprinklers, the number of times vehicles hitting iron blocks, tire skins, and automobile parts is relatively high, except for the “other” cases where the type of sprinklers is not accurately recorded. 3) With the intellectualization of the electromechanical system in the tunnel, the ways to find the spills are more diversified. Based on the analysis of the characteristics of the sprinklers, an intelligent scheme for quickly finding the sprinklers is proposed. The research in this paper is helpful in quickly finding and dealing with spillage accidents and further improving the safety of highway tunnel operation.
