ABSTRACT

Ameloblastoma occurrences are not common, especially in the younger age group. It is a type of tumor of the jaw, considered benign but prone to be locally invasive and cause a considerable damage to the surrounding mandibular structure. Resection of the mandible affected is seen as one of the methods to treat this condition, especially in lesions involving a significant amount of mandibular bone. Reconstruction of the jaw and surrounding structures with graft and fixed or removable prostheses is necessary to rehabilitate and improve the patient's quality of life. The case presented involves a 21-year-old male with a history of recurring ameloblastoma that occurred from a young age. A radical surgical approach, namely Hemi mandibulectomy, was the method of choice to halt the progress of the condition and subsequently replaced the missing structure with fibular and skin graft. The remaining intact tooth structure in the lower jaw includes 34, 35, 36, 37, and 38. The patient had a previous denture to replace the missing teeth which after a previous flap thinning surgery, now felt uncomfortable to wear and chew with. A new lower removable denture is constructed to replace the previous denture. The overdenture utilizes the existing tooth structure as support and avoids the need to perform implant placement surgery. The overdenture design of the removable partial denture can restore the functioning occlusion and improve the stability of the denture.
