ABSTRACT

Security has become a factor of key importance since recent advancements in technology and in the domain of the Internet of Things (IoT). All researchers have agreed to this point that not a single system can be worth deploying without a proper solution for its security. So the significance of cyber security cannot be neglected anymore. An intrusion detection system (IDS) monitors network traffic and warns of possible threats. Three types of IDS are being used: anomaly-based, signature-based, and hybrid-based. A signature-based IDS matches threats with cyber attack signatures from databases and issues alerts accordingly. Researchers have proposed various kinds of approaches for signature-based IDSs using the pattern-matching approach: machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) algorithms. This chapter presents a detailed survey on Signature-based IDSs for IoT environments.
