ABSTRACT

There are uncertainties surrounding fossil fuel availability and security to meet future global energy demand. Thus, it has become necessary to pivot the world towards clean source of energy from conventional fossil fuel–based economy. Biomass-based gasification is one of the techniques through which hydrogen can be produced, which can help society transition to hydrogen-based clean energy. Over the recent years, many important research works have been done to increase the efficiency of biomass-based gasification process to produce syngas as well as hydrogen on a commercial scale. This chapter would explore various gasification routes and models using the Aspen Plus process simulator for clean energy. A detailed methodology for hydrogen production using a gasifier is also discussed using different parameters like gasification temperature, pressure, and steam-to-biomass ratio (S/B) to identify its effect on gasification efficiency. The chapter would be helpful for researchers, academicians, policymakers, and stakeholders working in the area of gasification so that well-informed decisions can be taken to make the gasification process more efficient.
