ABSTRACT

In the current situation, the world’s economic growth is largely based on non-renewable fossil fuels, which are the primary source of greenhouse gases, causing resource depletion on the one hand and global warming on the other. In turn, this results in a narrowing bottleneck for wealth creation and economic growth. Therefore, switching from fossil to renewable fuels should be a top priority in the quest for a sustainable future. Since biomass is the only renewable and eco-friendly energy source that could be used to generate electricity, heat homes, and fuel vehicles, it is a vital component in the development of sustainable energy. It possesses numerous benefits, including the fact that biomass is carbon-neutral and cannot be exhausted such as fossil fuels. Carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases are released through the combustion of fossil fuels, trapping heat in the atmosphere. In addition to the opportunities and challenges brought on by the development of energy sources from biomass, this chapter tries to highlight important prospects for the sustainability of energy from biomass.
