ABSTRACT
Although energy is abundantly available in the universe, mankind has only been able to harness it to a limited extent. We mainly are dependent on fossil fuels to fulfill our needs. With ever-rising population and thereby its increasing energy needs, we need to explore alternative sources of energy that could not only meet our needs but also conserve the environment. Biomass energy has risen as the apt replacement of fossil fuels. Many research projects are going on around the globe to make biomass energy more efficient and reliable. This chapter focuses on the recent advancements made in the field of biomass energy, such as electricity production, fuel production, etc., and challenges that come in the way of production and utilization of biomass energy.
