ABSTRACT

The chapter provides an overview of Industry 4.0 as well as the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) in achieving Industry 4.0. It provides a quick overview of the history of the industrial revolution by highlighting some significant events along the timeline. Industry 4.0 is a new framework that strives to build an open and smart processing platform. It consists of nine key components that have assisted companies in their transition to Industry 4.0. By overcoming the hurdles, it helped industry to become more inventive, productive, and efficient through the discovering of quicker ways to produce competitively produced customized goods. The adoption of Industry 4.0 necessitates a well-organized supply chain as well as effective industrial management. The second part of the chapter delves into the areas of AI and IoT, a broad field of computer science that aids in the creation of intelligent devices capable of performing complex tasks. There is an urgent need for rigorous AI development and implementation to determine the actual impact of AI on Industry 4.0. By introducing new technologies, AI and IoT have assisted Industry 4.0 in becoming more sophisticated and efficient. They focus on developing, verifying, and implementing various machine learning algorithms for long-term performance in industrial applications. This chapter delves into the concept of Industrial AI and IoT by outlining the Industry 4.0 paradigms inside the framework and laying the groundwork for strategizing efforts toward the establishment of an Industrial AI and IoT system.
