ABSTRACT

Smart transportation system (STS) is an emerging area of research, and it draws the attention of academicians and Industrialists. It contributes various services to end users, including road safety and accident prediction, traffic prediction and control, and vehicle control and monitoring. The environmental pollution, heavy traffic, unpredictable congestion increases the complexity of the STS. Henceforth, the future STS is in the position to provide solutions for all these problems. It paves the way to enhance congestion control, CO2 emission control, user security, etc., as part of the transportation services. The increase in population and the transportation needs of the individual makes the Intelligent Transport System embrace various techniques of Artificial Intelligence (AI). In this chapter, we mainly focus on the various artificial techniques for future smart transport management systems. In the first section, the basic existing transportation system and their problems are discussed. The second section discusses the different kinds of AI technologies which deal with smart transportation. The third section discussed the emerging AI technologies for the future smart transportation services. The last section discusses some of the new AI technologies which handle the future smart transportation services.
