ABSTRACT

The decline in many bird species of the Western Ghats (WG) is due to the destruction, degradation, landscape alteration, and fragmentation of habitat and wide expanding conflicts of interest. A thorough and comprehensive refined checklist of birds of the WG together with the endemic status is considered an accurate document of that region’s bird life. This human dominated world biological heritage site has been analyzed for the rich avifauna (683 species) for the first time together with the distribution range in different states of the WG.
