ABSTRACT
The outbreak of COVID-19 has collapsed the present higher education system. There is no other option available with the education system but to digitalize themselves to survive in this tough situation across the world. This chapter includes the role played by digitalization in transforming the teaching and learning system in the higher education system. It has been observed that digitalization has contributed efficiently in various ways, increasing the efficiency of the higher education system, improving their performance management system, ensuring continuous and adaptive assessment by application of new teaching methods, transforming the traditional classroom teaching system into online mode, setting up of new business models in the field of higher education and changing the structure of job market. The chapter also discussed the various digital initiatives taken by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) in India and their specific role in the higher education system along with the New Education Policy (NEP, 2020).
