ABSTRACT

Nanotechnology, being the most promising technology in the 21st century, has reformed the whole world. In recent years, nanotechnology has proved to be an interdisciplinary research field, and it extended its scope of applications to versatile areas of human endeavor. Growing people’s expectation for durable and functional apparel has generated a chance for materials in nanoscale to be integrated into textile substrates. The unique properties of nanomaterials can impart antibacterial, water-repellency, wrinkle free-ness, static elimination, and flame retardancy improved dyeability without changing their comfort and flexibility. Another potential application offered by nanomaterials is the production of connected garments that can sense and respond to external stimuli via electrical, color, or physiological signals. This chapter mainly focuses on the possible applications of nanotechnology in the current textile arena. The various limitations and risk factors such as nanotoxicity and their environmental impacts are also discussed.
