ABSTRACT

Cybersecurity hygiene is explored within the context of the growing hybrid home-work computing environment. The concepts of cyber hygiene and the hybrid home-work computing environment are examined and abstractly defined. In this chapter, an analogy between physical security and cybersecurity reveals how learning good cybersecurity behaviors differ from learning good physical security behaviors. Some proposed solutions to potential problems in the home-work environment are also scrutinized since these technology-focused solutions do not address the human element. Users need to be a part of the cybersecurity informational loop. We present how behavioral interventions (e.g., nudge, warning, and training) and good design practices can improve cyber hygiene. And, offer an initial set of practical cyber hygiene recommendations unique to home-work computer users. Future research in the home-work computing environment is discussed.
